What is a break?
A break is a way to engage in card collecting without having to pay full price for the box or case of cards. Instead, there are different types of breaks you can join that allows you to chase the teams or players you want, or to build your card collection. Let’s take a look at some of the most common that we use.
PICK YOUR TEAM (PYT) BREAKS
In this type of break, a player will choose a team(s) from the available list. Typically pricing for each teams varies depending on potential hits/rookies in the break. This one is pretty self-explanatory- you’re picking the team for yourself.
RANDOM TEAM BREAKS
Player will buy into a spot in the break- typically the number of spots represent the number of teams in that sport. Once all spots have been purchased, the list of players will be randomized on Random.org to determine which team you will be assigned to in the break. In this type of break, pricing is the same for all spots.
RANDOM HIT BREAKS
In Players will buy a spot in this break where the number of spots will represent the total number of possible hits to be pulled out of the product. Here, once the product breaks and all the hits are revealed, they will be listed and randomized on Random.org to then assign a random hit to each player’s spot in the break. This is probably the only type of break where you are guaranteed a hit.
SERIAL NUMBER BREAKS
This is similar to both, Random Team and Random Hit, because you are buying a spot in the break, but the difference is, instead of getting a random team after the randomizing on Random.org, you will be assigned a # from 0 to 9. This means that you will be awarded any card that contains your assigned # located to the left of the slash “/”. For example, if a card pulled is number 32/49, the card will go to the player that is assigned the number “2,” or if a 1/1 is pulled, the card will go to the player assigned with the number “1.”
I just bought into a break. When does it break?
When the break is sold out, it will get added to the Upcoming Live Breaks events. Typically we will go live with the break on the next break day.
How can I watch your breaks?
We stream live from a few different platforms including YouTube, Facebook, and Breakers.tv. We are typically live during the evenings on weeknights. Check out our schedule of upcoming breaks.
What happens if there are multiple players/teams displayed on a card?
We will randomize the players/teams represented on the card- the winner of the random gets the card.
Who gets the card for a player with no team representation on the card?
If no team is listed on the card, there are several things to consider.
The year of that card set.
The most current team that player is on for that year.
If it is a rookie card or a college uniform, it will go to the team that drafted that player, or the team that signed the player as an undrafted free agent.
If it is a retired player, it will go to the team he/she has played with the longest.
What is a mini/filler?
A breaker may run minis (or fillers) to help close out the break quicker. These will only be done on Facebook and are a chance for members to get into a break a lower cost. The way it works is if a breaker is trying to fill a spot(s), the cost of those spots will get divided into the number of spots the mini is listed for.
For example, one spot is $10 in a break. The breaker will run a mini to fill that spot and could do 10 spots @ $1 per spot, or 5 spots @ $2 per spot. Once all the spots are filled, the spots will be randomized on Random.org and the winner will own that spot in the break.
Do all cards ship?
No. Only hits, inserts, and rookie cards will ship. Autographs, memorabilia, and serial numbered cards are considered hits.
Do you offer international shipping?
Yes. International customer shipments go out once a month for a flat rate of $7.
Do you offer group grading submissions?
Yes. Whether you tell us to hold onto the cards as we pull them for grading, or have any to send in- just let us know! The Beckett submission goes out once we receive 100 cards. No PSA as of right now.
